Tibet

It is a very beautiful place close to the Himalayas of Nepal. It attracts thousands of tourists every year. Everyone who visits the place admires its surreal natural beauty and old religious culture. Mostly the sights to see in Tibet are as follow:

  1. The Potala Palace: It is located on the side of Marpo Ri (Red Mountain), north west of Lhasa City. The large and impressive building was built in 637 and the royal palace of King Songtsan Gampo. The palace became the residence of the Dalai Lama and the theocratic center of Tibet when he reconstructed it in 1645. Innumerable treasures and art works inside the palace proves it as ‘The Palace of Art’ which represents a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.
  2. Jokhang Temple: Located on Barkhar Square, Lhasa, the temple was built in the 7th Considered as the most sacred and important temple by Tibets, it is the supreme temple of Tibetan Buddhism. Built by King Songtsan Gampo for his two brides (one Nepalese Princess Bhrukuti) with rich architectural style representing Chinese Tang Dynasty design, Indian Vihara desigh and Nepalese design, the temple reflects the relation between Nepal and Tibet.
  3. Namtso: Located in Damxung country and Baingocountry, Namtso is considered as one of the most beautiful places in Tibet. Lake Namtso which literally means ‘Heaven Lake’ in Tibet Autonomous Region is the second largest salt water lake in China. Regarded as a holy lake, it is at an altitude of about 4,718 meters (15479 feet). Tibetan calendar believers make a pilgrimage to Lake Namtso during the Year of the Sheep. The lake is surrounded by four temples. The picturesque scene of the place holds high attraction to those who visit Tibet.
  4. Yamdrok Lake: Surrounded by pastures and mountains, Yamdrok Lake is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet. It is located in Nagarze Country, Shannan Prefecture and is about 70 kilometers from Lhasa. Yamdrok Lake means ‘jade lake’ in Tibetan. It is a barrier lake since the river way was blocked by glacial mud-rock millions of years ago.

Besides above mentioned popular places, there are other interesting places in Tibet. Among them, The Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon is the deepest canyon in the world which is regarded as the most beautiful canyon in China. It is situated in Mainling Country at an altitude of 115 meters in the south. Another interesting place is Yangbajing Hot Spring. It is about 90 kilopeters northwest of Lhasa. Having a hot spring bath in winter makes you feel like you are in a fairyland. Similarly, Barkhor Street is a famous circumambulation and commercial center located in the old town of Lhasa City. The street retains the traditional features of the ancient city and its living mode. If you visit Tibet a very popular garden draws your attention that is Norbulingka. It is the largest garden with the best scenery and the most historical sites in Tibet which is located in the west of Lhasa. Among interesting and worth visiting places, Tashilhunpo Monastery is really eye-catching not only for external decoration but also its cultural and historical significance. The monastery is located on Nyima Mountain, west of Shigatse City which is 26.2 meters (86 feet) high.  The last but not the least, Lulang Forest is a sight to enjoy when you visit Tibet. It is a typical plateau forest on mountain slopes about 88 km form Bayi town in Nyingchi Prefeture and National Road 318runs through the forest.
