Kakani, a hill station of breathtaking scenery in Nuwakot district, is located on the northern side of the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu. It is 29km away from the capital and accessible by road and takes just one and half hour drive. The place is especially famous for day hiking and natural scene. The mixed views of beautiful mountains and low-land villages can be enjoyed from Kakani. Mostly, day hikers long to extend their stay a couple of days. As we pass numerous villages with frequent turnings, the drive itself becomes interesting. The magnificent scenery on the swirling way offers you the rapture of paradise. World’s highest mountains including Gaurishankar, Ganesh Himal, Annapurna, Manaslu and many others glitter to the north. The hikers prefer to commence their move from the south and head towards the north. There is a memorial park that commemorates the victims of 1992 Thai Airways Flight 311 crash. Close to that there is old summer villa used by the British Embassy. You can see local people selling fresh and juicy strawberries between Februarys to April. Kakani is the most appropriate point to start your hiking and continue via Alle to Budhanilkantha. Along with five to six hour long hiking, you can enjoy photography on the way.
