Godabari is a beautiful place situated in the base of Mount Phulchoki in Lalitpur district. It is at the altitude of 1515m and about 15 kilometers from the city of Kathmandu. It is at the south east corner of the valley surrounded by evergreen natural forests. The popular Botanical Garden occupies the area of 82 hectare of land. The average temperature during summer is 25 degree Celsius and 10 degree during winter. The prime attraction of this garden is over 500 species of plants and eye-catching flowers especially in spring and autumn seasons. The dramatic views of various colorful flowers including Rhododendron, the national flower of Nepal, welcome the spring season. The gardens are always full of more than 800 species of attractive butterflies flying around in flocks. A small admission fee is charged to enter the garden which remains open from 9 to five during spring and summer and 10 to 4 during winter months. Besides the garden, you can enjoy watching Godabari Spring which is located just 200m form the Gardens’s main gate. A month-long big fair is held every twelve year from mid August to September and the pilgrims take a holy bath in the spring.
Santaneshwor Mahadev Temple
Located at the south- east of Kathmandu Valley, Santaneshwor Mahadev Temple is one of the famous Hindu religious places in Lalitpur district. It is situated at the border of Jharuwarasi village in Godabari municipality. The temple is about 15 km from Kathmandu which takes approximately one hour drive. A short journey to the temple becomes very interesting as we pass some typical outskirt habitations and natural scene. When you reach the top of the hill, you will feel like being in paradise. You can enjoy the entire views of Kathmandu Valley. You don’t miss the beautiful sunrise view if you reach early in the morning. Your hiking will be worth when you observe idols of different Hindu Gods and Goddesses that reflects the pre historic time. The decoration of the temple and stone paved stair cases to the temple gate will obviously remove your fatigue. Carried by distinctive identity, the place is highly religious with the majority of Brahmin and Chhetri communities. As there is no modernization, you will inhale fresh air. According to the myth, it is believed that the couples, who have no children pay homage to the Santanewhwor Mahadev, the incarnation of Lord Shiva, will have their children.
