Kathmandu, the capital city of the Federal Democratic Republic of  Nepal occupies a large valley (49.45 km2). It is the only metropolitan city of Nepal. The valley consists of three major districts of Nepal; Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur. It is the most densely populated city of the country which holds approximately two million people.

The city is situated at the height of 1,400 meters (4,600ft) in the valley of central Nepal. Four major hills namely Phulchoki, Nagarjun, Shivapuri, and Chandragiri surround the city. The vibrant city deserves the capacity of large number tourist attraction every year because of its rich traditional arts and cultural heritage. The city is packed full of temples, palaces and stupas. The premier attraction of Nepal, the Himalaya is also within its touching distance.  The magnetic attractions of Kathmandu are Durbar Square  which showcases the rich cultural heritage of the city. Gorgeous monasteries Boudhnath Stupa and Swyambhu Nath are the Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world.
